Yahoo shoots for mobile crown
In the battle to deliver information and online services to mobile phones, Yahoo has released its latest weapon, Go for Mobile 2.0, that will let users find information like weather, news, stock quotes and sports scores quickly on their cellphones. Introduced Monday at the Consumer Electronics Show in Las Vegas, Yahoo’s Go for Mobile 2.0 is an updated version of the software that was released last year. The service will be assisted by oneSearch, an intuitive search application that will attempt to anticipate the requests of a user.
Yahoo indicated the software will be loaded on 400 models of cell phones by the end of 2007. One issue still remaining is selling this package to the cell carriers who provide their own competing services. According to Steve Boom, Yahoo’s senior vice president for broadband and mobile, the service, although free, will be advertiser supported. Mr. Broom noted that Yahoo is working on a revenue sharing model to entice carrier participation
